Teal Ridge Wetlands- A wildlife hotspot!

Yellow Rumped Warbler clear.jpg

The Teal Ridge Wetlands attract a wide variety of wildlife despite the current, less than appealing, aesthetic. The wetlands is dominated by birds throughout the year- particularly, Red-winged Blackbirds but it also provides habitat for various ducks and wading birds, hawks, roadrunners, sandpipers, soras and a healthy mix of songbirds.

Mammals in the wetlands are a little harder to spot though evidence of their existence is easy to come by. Opossums, raccoons, beavers, and even the occasional fox or bobcat may frequent the area.

Reptiles and amphibians are common, though often hidden in the tall grass. Harmless water snakes can often be found basking in the summer heat before slipping quietly into the water. Racerunners and skinks might be spotted skittering along the paths and a turtle or three is usually visible sunning or swimming in the ponds.
